Focus of work
The
Ethiopian country office implements the Y2Y programme in co-operation
with nine partner organisations. The country-wide youth club network
has continuously grown and now comprises 225 clubs, which have
contributed significantly to the enhancement of young Ethiopian's
knowledge and changing attitude towards a safe sexual life.DSW roles
- Quality assurance by assisting in standards and model development;
- Promote production of quality information, education and communication (IEC) materials;
- Participatory monitoring and evaluation.
Partner NGO roles
- Creating conducive environment for self help initiatives;
- Co-ordination, supervision, monitoring and evaluation.
Self help initiatives roles
- Implementation of Youth-to-Youth programme;
- Improve management and organisation of the self help initiatives using standard guidelines;
- Conduct intensive IEC through peer-to-peer learning based on standard sexual and reproductive health manual;
- Conduct mass IEC through education and entertainment activities (music, drama, recitation, story telling, performances, etc.);
- Provide sexual and reproductive health services through referral (condom distribution, pregnancy test, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) tests, HIV testing, peer counselling, etc.);
- Replicating the self help initiatives;
- Networking with other self help initiatives and the community structure;
- Reporting regularly.
