Focus of work
The Ethiopian country office implements the Y2Y programme in co-operation with nine partner organisations. The country-wide youth club network has continuously grown and now comprises 225 clubs, which have contributed significantly to the enhancement of young Ethiopian's knowledge and changing attitude towards a safe sexual life.


DSW roles
  • Quality assurance by assisting in standards and model development;
  • Promote production of quality information, education and communication (IEC) materials;
  • Participatory monitoring and evaluation.

Partner NGO roles

  • Creating conducive environment for self help initiatives;
  • Co-ordination, supervision, monitoring and evaluation.

Self help initiatives roles
  • Implementation of Youth-to-Youth programme;
  • Improve management and organisation of the self help initiatives using standard guidelines;
  • Conduct intensive IEC through peer-to-peer learning based on standard sexual and reproductive health manual;
  • Conduct mass IEC through education and entertainment activities (music, drama, recitation, story telling, performances, etc.);
  • Provide sexual and reproductive health services through referral (condom distribution, pregnancy test, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) tests, HIV testing, peer counselling, etc.);
  • Replicating the self help initiatives;
  • Networking with other self help initiatives and the community structure;
  • Reporting regularly.
